The Prayer
When I was wheeled into the room and laid on the blue and white hospital bed, the first thing I saw was the teenage girl. She was probably close to my age, maybe a little older, sleeping in the other bed, her red hair framing a small, frightfully pale face. My mind was all fuzzy from the painkillers, but somehow her face caught my attention, and all I could do was stare at her as the nurses worked over me to make me more comfortable. I barely noticed them, but the girl... “Who is she?”
The nurse who'd heard me frowned at the question. “Coral. She's a terminal cancer patient.” My breath cut short.
